Over the next couple of years, a new generation of Sandbox MMOs will be competing against the Themeparks. Camelot Unchained is gaining momentum as the true successor to Dark Age of Camelot(There have been many pretenders!). Along with 3 Faction RvR, crafters will design structures, build forts and trade blueprints. Still too early for trailers.

These games will be out before then, they both have an emphasis on community and socialising. Elements I find are missing from Themepark MMOs, where everyone is rushing through quest after scripted quest...

The Repopulation models itself on Star Wars Galaxies and Ultima Online. No classes, no levels and a versatile crafting system.

Pathfinder Online isn't going to make a visual impact on anyone's monitor, where the graphical limitations end, the scope of the game is worth keeping an eye on. Players construct settlements, settlements ally together to form a Kingdom, then declare war on others to raze their towns to the ground and claim their territory. The defeated might disband, or travel to the frontiers and start over. Details of the Open-PvP world and player alignments are all here.

With Black Desert back in beta, there're many vids coming out... I'm liking the speed on these horses, they can be captured in the wild, tamed and bred.

Well, dang. That was one of the few MMO's I was really looking forwards to. :problem:

It turns out Wildstar is going into open beta, from the 8th - 18th.

There's been a lot of hype around the game, developed by former Blizzard employees.

The cartoon visuals already turned me off the game, last year. I didn't think I would try it at all, though the pace and coordination of raiding doesn't look so bad. Much of the combat is based around 'telegraphs', watching the ground for red zones and rolling-out!

A little piece inside of me died when they announced the shuttering of World of Darkness, but yeah, what can you do? :(

Played Wildstar for ~2 weeks in Closed Beta before I simply couldn't log in any more - it's everything World of Warcraft was five years ago with a few nice tidbits of novelty sprinkled across the top, but I quit it for a reason and I don't really want to get back into the raiding because it's either hardcore or none with nothing in between for me on that one.

That said, the video was entertaining but it actually blows my damn lid to see a game so utterly dominated by telegraphs have that fucked up of a hit-box system for objects you're NOT supposed to hit. He didn't even touch that fucking egg and still caused that wipe.

IF you do it like that, it better be as crisp as French croissant at 6:30 AM! :hrm:

It's a solid game though and the humour had me crack up a couple of time - just one prominent example of it was a quest where you had to catch CUPIGS - which as the name suggests are cubic pigs, the stereotypical-offensive Protostar race (love em) genetically engineered them so they could stack them easier! ;)

The graphics however are such a damn eyesore that it's Blackwater Bay all over again -_- Can't play it, just doesn't work and I feel like I owe it to my gaming rig to not have purchased it for such fidelity. Its ego as rather fragile, really and needs to be stroked on a daily basis.

Just waiting for my Sandboxes, it's kind of odd to see how far ahead South Korean studios are when it comes to developing them - Archeage looks fun, but Black Desert looks like it might eclipse it by far - keeping an eye on it to see whether it's more than just giving me the weirdest graphics boners and the system in place are actually good, haven't seen too much of it yet from that perspective.

Other than that, my hopes for EverQuest Next are slightly dampened to be honest - Landmark looks fine, but I still don't buy their claims of their Monster AI being so outrageously advanced that that would be the reason the can't include a Holy Trinity into the game, I fear it might end up like Guild Wars 2 where your only real option is DPS DPS DPS - which is fun for a while but seems to limit the scope of boss mechanics severely in the long run.

Seems as far as Sandboxes go - SL will stay ahead despite all its obvious flaws for some more years to come.

The combat in Wildstar actually feels very rewarding, a lot of MMOs usually don't tend to get that right or manage to get a smooth battle experience.

I'm actually looking forward to the next Dragon Age, hopefully they bring back the old Origins blood mage :beg:

The original Dragon Age (Ultimate Edition) is on sale this weekend. I may slot it into the Steam library of titles I never play!

Black Desert's visuals look amazing, the game was ticking all the right boxes, until the current beta-testers revealed... there's no level cap! Post lv50, you can keep on grinding.
